Swanwick Hall students and staff have recently completed an incredible challenge, rowing the equivalent distance from Swanwick Hall School to Wembley stadium in an effort to raise money for charity. Not only did the participants achieve their ambitious target of 220,480 m, but they also exceeded their £500 fundraising goal by raising an impressive £917 for Young Lives vs Cancer.

Despite a packed school year students and staff were determined to set themselves a challenge that would bring the whole community together and encourage people to donate. Using the school rowing machines, participants rowed a remarkable 247,259 m, far beyond the original target!

On the morning of the challenge, rowing machines were arranged in one of the outside areas of the school, allowing participants to enjoy some fresh air and whilst being cheered on by their peers. To encourage even more involvement, the school also held a ‘dress comfortable’ day, where students could wear relaxing clothes in exchange for a donation to the rowing efforts.

Through a mixture of determination, teamwork and encouragement, students and staff achieved an amazing result both on the rowing machines and in fundraising. All the money raised will be going to Young Lives vs Cancer, a charity close to the school community.

Swanwick Hall would also like to take the opportunity to thank Amber Valley School Sports Partnership for lending the school the rowing machines needed to hold this event.

This is a fantastic achievement, highlighting what can happen when students and staff work together with a simple goal of doing something good for the wider community. Well done to all involved!
