Scholars in Years 7 and 8 at Heritage High School recently enjoyed an unforgettable visit from author David Solomons, best known for My Brother is a Superhero, A Beginner’s Guide to Ruling the Galaxy and The Ministry of Manners.
During an engaging and interactive session, David gave scholars a fascinating insight into the process of building a dystopian world. He explored how writers create believable settings, compelling characters and imaginative storylines, before challenging scholars to invent their own speculative fiction ideas. The session sparked creativity across the room, with scholars developing unique worlds and plots of their own, demonstrating ambition in their thinking and ideas.
The excitement continued as scholars took part in library activities inspired by David’s books. These tasks encouraged teamwork, imagination, and a curiosity about storytelling and reading, as scholars worked together to share ideas and support one another. Throughout the visit, scholars showed honesty in their reflections and contributions, confidently expressing their thoughts and creative concepts.
Scholars also had the opportunity to ask questions during a lively Q&A session, showing curiosity about writing, publishing, and David’s own journey as an author. The visit concluded with a book signing, giving scholars a chance to speak to the author personally and have a copy of their book signed. The event proved to be a huge success, with scholars thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to meet a published author and take part in a range of creative activities.
