The Two Counties Trust’s (TTCT) Multi-Faith Event returned this year at The Open Centre in Derby, welcoming students for a day of immersive learning and cultural exploration. Once again, students were encouraged to develop a deeper understanding of religious diversity whilst building respect and recognising shared values.
The first visit of the day was to the Geeta Bhawan Hindu Temple. This year, students had the privilege to observe a live morning prayer, a memorable and special experience for all. Alongside this, students learned about the history of Hinduism, its core beliefs and traditions. They even had the chance to wear colourful traditional clothing often worn during Hindu celebrations.
Students then travelled to the Jamia Mosque, where they were given a guided tour, including the prayer halls and the wudu (ablution) area. The visit offered further insight into Islamic beliefs and daily practices, as well as the opportunity to view religious artefacts and discuss the faith’s history and values. Throughout the experience students eagerly asked thoughtful questions and engaged respectfully.

The final visit of the day was to the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara, where students explored the key beliefs and practices of Sikhism. They learnt about the significance of the Five Ks, the importance of prayer and service as well as the teachings of the Gurus, which continue to shape Sikh identity and values today.
Elisha Allsop, Trust Lead for RE commented on the success of the event:
“At TTCT, we were proud to organise our annual Multi-Faith Event for the second year in 2026, demonstrating our commitment to high-quality RE provision across the Trust. This was a unique and enriching opportunity for students from across our family of schools to meet together, learn about diverse worldviews and their contribution to the world we share. All students exemplified our Trust values, in addition to demonstrating respect for diversity and religious worldviews. I would like to thank The Open Centre, Derby, for facilitating another excellent event.”
Students also shared positive reflections on the day:
“I thought the trip was great and the people there were very welcoming to us and helpful in explaining their religious beliefs.”
Another student added:
“I thought the trip was very welcoming and the people were very kind, intelligent and respectful about theirs and other faiths. I learned about baptism in Sikhism and a lot about Islam and Hinduism.”
The event reflected TTCT’s commitment to providing meaningful opportunities and experiences which enhance student’s life choices and understanding of the world we share.
