Frederick Gent School staff and students were proud to welcome Natalie Fleet, MP for Bolsover, to the school earlier in October.

Ms Fleet met with Headteacher, Chris Woollard, to discuss the continued wellbeing of both the school and the wider local community. During her visit she also spent time talking with students about their experiences of life and learning at Frederick Gent School.

Students relished the opportunity to meet with their elected representative, especially the direct representative of their constituency. They gained insight into the role of an MP and Ms Fleet’s work on the Women and Equalities Committee. This discussion clearly left students feeling both proud and more informed about the democratic process as well as their local area’s role.

One student reflected: “I was excited to meet Natalie Fleet as I have never spoken to an MP before. She was very easy to talk to and it was really interesting to hear about how she became an MP.”

Headteacher Chris Woollard also said “It was great to welcome our local MP, Natalie Fleet, on her recent visit to Frederick Gent School. As Head Teacher I was proud to be able to share the many successes we are achieving and to give Natalie the chance to meet some of our amazing pupils. They are the school’s greatest asset. Natalie was very impressed with the inclusive ethos of both the school and The Two Counties Trust which the school is part of. The offers of support given by Natalie during the visit were very generous and we hope to have similar visits to our school in the future.”

As a school in the heart of its local community, everyone valued the opportunity to build positive relationships with those who also represent and serve the area. Visits like this also help our students to see the strong links between their education and the world we share.

Well done to all students for their thoughtful engagement during the visit and thank you to Ms Fleet for taking the time to visit Frederick Gent School.
