One of the biggest roles education plays in students’ lives is attempting to prepare them for the world after school. This includes our students being aware of the right that they have to vote in elections. Selston High School has taken the opportunity to create an engaging and exciting way to develop students’ knowledge over this year’s General Election.

The stet up for this mock election was incredibly well organised, each Selston form group was set as it’s own constituency in an effort to give a more intricate example of how the British election system works.

Students chose from a selection of five in-school parties named A – D. Each party put forward manifestos which students had time to read and evaluate. On election day the school set up several ’polling stations’ which student could visit where they were greeted by volunteer officials and given a voting slip.

At the end of the school day students watched the vote count via Team as the votes were collected and the results revealed by an interactive feature that had been masterfully coded by Selston’s own Mr Pullen.

Well done to all Students that took part in this activity. It is also important to recognise the tremendous efforts of Selston staff who have provided a fantastic example of how the democratic process of the UK works for their students. This has been a valuable experience for our schools and the Trust mission to enhance the life choices of students.
